New Year Greeting from Rabbi Stern

One of the wonderful features of video games is the ability to rise from the dead. It’s so reassuring to know that even if you make a mistake—fall into a pit of fire, get bitten by a zombie, or shot by the bad guy—all you have to do is reset and keep going.

The High Holy Day experience is not a video game. It is a loving reminder that we have one life: precious, beautiful, challenging, and utterly unique. We can’t simply undo our mistakes or erase our moments of insensitivity with the press of a button. But we can do something even more meaningful—we can work to repair what we’ve broken through the sacred practices of atonement, and forgiveness.

These days offer us what no video game can: the opportunity for genuine transformation. Not a reset, but a renewal. Not an escape from consequence, but a path toward healing and growth.

So come join your fellow TBA travelers in this most human of quests—the work of living with greater intention, compassion, and wisdom. Be part of welcoming a new year filled with new possibilities and the ancient hope that we can always begin again.

This isn’t a game. This is the real thing.

A Message from TBA's President James Nahirny

Every day our lives and the world around us seem to keep getting more complicated, even when we think they couldn’t possibly get more so. In the face of all of the confusing news and information constantly coming at us, I appreciate the respite and reflection afforded by spending the High Holy Days at TBA with Rabbi Stern. Please join us as we also happily welcome Cantor Snyder leading us in High Holiday song both familiar and new. I wish all of our community a sweet, healthy, and peaceful New Year, and I look forward to sharing services with you in our beautiful sanctuary.

Musical Notes from Cantor Snyder

I am honored to begin my first High Holy Days at TBA and share the bimah with Rabbi Stern and returning guest leader, Cantor Marcie Jonas. Together with keyboardist Jamie Saltman, we invite all interested post-b’nai-mitzvah-age adults to join our High Holy Day Choir and help lead our community on a few select pieces. Rehearsals take place in the Community Room on August 26, September 2, 9, and 16 at 7 p.m. Click here to sign up for the choir. All are welcome – no experience is necessary, just bring your voice and spirit!

Adult Guest Registration for Non-Members

The High Holy Days are a large undertaking from a planning and financial perspective. We appreciate the ongoing financial support of our members and guests to make it possible for us to bring high quality, meaningful experiences to everyone. While we ask guests to make a donation to offset our costs, all are welcome regardless of financial means. Please contact Becky Oliver if you need assistance.

Children/Family Programs

We invite you to join us for a variety of opportunities for children and families throughout the High Holy Days. Our offerings include services and programs for families with young children up to grade 2, as well as children’s programming for Pre-K - grade 6, which will take place concurrently with the main service.

Children’s programming will be split into two groups: kindergarten– grade 3 and grades 4–6, with activities designed to be fun, age-appropriate, and meaningful. Teens in grades 7-12 are encouraged to participate in the main sanctuary services and/or connect with Rebecca Kahn about assisting with children’s programs.

These experiences are also open to prospective members, so please feel free to invite a friend who may be interested in checking out TBA. Click here for descriptions and to sign up for these programs
