BECOMING A MEMBER FAQ'S

Why Become a Member?

At Temple Beth Avodah, we welcome all individuals and families and embrace diversity in our community. As a member, we are here for you in every stage of life and will support you in your celebrations and times of need. Belonging to TBA means being part of a community that is present with you in joy, sadness, comfort, and hope.

What is Temple Beth Avodah's Member Commitment Model?

Temple Beth Avodah’s Member Commitment model, empowers members to make an informed choice about their contribution to TBA. We use a philanthropic model built giving meaningfully, developing relationships, and working together to create a strong temple community.

New members are invited to join TBA without making a financial contribution in their first year. This gift enables you to get to know the TBA community and begin to build relationships first. Once you have a better sense of the value you feel in the community, you can make an informed choice about your Member Commitment. For more information about joining TBA, please contact our Executive Director, Becky Oliver.

If you are ready to join, click here to fill out our membership form. Once it is received, we’ll be in touch.

Why are we changing from a dues structure to a Member Commitment model?

Over the course of two years (2021-2023), the TBA leadership explored the needs of our community, the landscape of Jewish communal life, and potential models for membership. Click here to read more about what we learned in this process and why we are changing our model

What is the included in the Member Commitment?

The Member Commitment replaces and consolidates multiple financial requests into one contribution including:

  • Membership dues

  • Annual Sustaining Campaign

  • Security fee

  • Participate fees for many programs and events

Items such as school tuition, rental fees, and trips/retreat fees will remain separate based on participation.

The fundamental premise is that it gives you, our members, the power to choose your contribution to align your Member Commitment with the value you experience as part of the TBA community.

How does the Member Commitment work?

Our newly formed Member Commitment Committee focuses on implementation, maintenance, and valuation of this model in consultation with the board.  If you are interested in our implementation plan, please click here.

Each year the Temple leadership will provide members with a financial review to better understand expenditures and sources of revenue for TBA. Based on this information, we will provide you with an optimal contribution per member/family and various options for giving levels. Along with this information, you will be reminded of your past contribution and a personalized recommendation for the coming year. You are not obligated to give at the recommended level; it is there to assist you as you desire. We recognize that every individual situation is different and provide this information to guide you in your contribution decision.
