Tzedek: Pursuing Justice, an Introduction

Dear TBA Friends:

Helping others and trying to improve the world are central to our mission at TBA and part of who we are as a congregation and as Jews. We take pride in knowing that so many of our TBA family members are actively involved with social justice and social action both through TBA and outside. We are excited to share some updates to our TBA initiatives and invite you to join us.

  • Over the years, an important way we have gathered as a community to help others is through Mitzvah Day. We are excited to announce that TBA will be holding our next Mitzvah Day on Sunday, November 3, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. – Click here to save the date to your calendar. We’d also love to hear your ideas for projects and your help leading projects. Please contact Suzy Willard Rosenthal and Carol Kirson if you would like to help plan what we hope will be our biggest ever day of coming together as a congregation to help others and improve the world!

  • We’ve recently rebranded our social action/social justice committee as Tzedek: Pursuing Justice (Tzedek is Hebrew for “righteousness” or “justice”.). Contact Debbie Hart-Klein if you wish to receive meeting invitations and minutes, even if you are not able to attend.

  • Reflecting our dedication to Tzedek, TBA signed the Reform Jewish Movement’s Brit Olam, a formal commitment to help improve the world which gives us access to resources and connects us to a network of like-minded congregations. Check out the Annual Conference of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism in Washington, DC, May 19-21. Click here or contact Debbie Hart-Klein for more information about signing up. It would be wonderful to send a TBA delegation of 4 people!

Please take a look at the Tzedek page on TBA’s website and our Tzedek blog for ongoing updates, schedule of upcoming Tzedek events, and to see photos of volunteers having fun as they help pursue justice!

Thank you all for your time, ideas and commitment!

Warmly,

Rabbi Stern, Becky Oliver, Stacy Schwartz and Debbie Hart-Klein
