Monthly Cooking for TSS Continues in 2019!

March 8, 2019

We are continuing our commitment to cook a monthly community dinner for the approximately 35 residents of The Second Step's transitional housing. The residents are women and children who have escaped abusive relationships and are establishing new lives. Most residents live in this housing for about 6 months while they work with TSS to find permanent housing, jobs, and proper schooling for the children.  This is a small part of the services that TSS provides.  Click here to learn more about TSS.

Our January and February cooking events were the usual fun and productive gatherings, ending with delicious food that the TSS residents were thrilled to enjoy!  Last month, Jackie Dahlquist planned a wonderful menu of herbed roasted chicken with roasted potatoes and salad, with olive oil cake and strawberries for dessert.  In January, Bunny Aronson led a group making yummy comfort food of baked pasta and meat sauce, crisp salads and oatmeal bars for dessert.

In addition to Bunny and Jackie, thanks to our cooks who helped with meal prep one or both months: Suzy Willard, Mary Balsam, Millie Tubman, Julie Black Gollob, and Sandra Kogan.  And a special thanks to our young cooks, Mariel Shapiro, Lily Paltrowitz, Charlotte Levine, and Lauren and Jake Fisch.

We'd love to add more people to our roster of volunteers!  Please email Jackie Dahlquist if you are interested in cooking with us!
