Upcoming State-wide Events

Our efforts to support victims of domestic violence continues to make a real difference.

For anyone looking for public ways to show support in the fight against domestic violence, there are two statewide events coming up that you might be interested in.

1) White Ribbon Day in Massachusetts. White Ribbon Day is the statewide call to men and boys to be allies in the work to end violence against women. In truth, there are usually events scheduled across the state throughout March. On March 1 and at Faneuil Hall, Jane Doe Inc, Massachusetts Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, will host the 10th Annual White Ribbon Day Event. It’s always a very cool and inspiring event and it’s open to the public. The program is aimed at (and primarily attended by) men and boys, but girls and women can definitely attend if they want. Space is limited, so you might want to RSVP if you wish to attend.

2) The City of Newton's White Ribbon Day Proclamation - Closer to home, the City of Newton and Second Step will host a White Ribbon Proclamation event on March 8 at 6:00 at City Hall. Join City and community leaders to learn what we all can do to change norms around gender-based violence, and demonstrate your own commitment by taking the pledge: “From this day forward, I promise to be part of the solution in ending violence against women and all gender-based violence.”

3) White Ribbon Pledge - Regardless if you can attend any White Ribbon events, individuals can take the White Ribbon pledge online and add their name to the growing number of men in Massachusetts who have joined this campaign.

4) Jane Doe’s Advocacy Day, March 22 - For those of us interested in policy, Jane Doe is orgnanizign and Advocacy Day on Beacon Hill. We don’t have the exact times yet, but there will be a legislative briefing in the morning followed by visits to Beacon Hill legislative offices (Ruth Balser, Kay Khan, John Lawn, Cindy Creem and any other legislators you might want to visit). The briefing will explain the budget and policy priorities that Jane Doe (the statewide coalition) wants us to focus on. TBA members would be there to talk about why they think this issue is so important, why they care about it and why they want their legislators to care about it as well. Yay for citizen action! If you are interested in Advocacy Day, please let Eve Tapper or Jeff Tarmy know so that we can coordinate scheduling the legislative visits and get everyone’s name on the admit list for the legislative briefing.
