Dear Fellow Member of the Temple Beth Avodah Community:
As we begin our term as Co-Presidents, we welcome you to another year at Temple Beth Avodah, and sincerely thank you for having entrusted the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee and us with the leadership of the Temple and our community during the coming year.
Our decision, both individually and as a couple, to step into the presidency was made after much conversation and reflection. In the end, we understood that we share a vision and passion for the Temple, and the work that is done at and through the Temple. Our vision builds upon the strong foundation created by those who came before us – the establishment and nurturing of a community in which every person counts and is connected, the provision of a diverse range of religious, educational, social justice and social opportunities, and the creation of an atmosphere and space in which everyone feels comfortable and at home.
For us, the coming years provide the opportunity to do our part along with the Temple’s wonderful clergy, professional leaders and staff, and to be with you and to lead as we all move forward on the Temple Beth Avodah journey that started almost forty-eight years ago with our dedicated and visionary founders. Indeed, we will be celebrating Temple Beth Avodah’s 50th Anniversary during the latter half of 2013 and into 2014. Planning for the celebrations and programs will take place during the next two years, and we hope that you will participate. Please let us know if you are interested in helping on the plans.
Each year, we hear two common statements from members. The first brings sheer joy – “We are so happy we were here for [fill in the service or program]. It was a tremendous experience”. The second brings disappointment – “We didn’t even know about [fill in the service or program]. We hear it was great.” – for it means that an opportunity was missed. To make sure that you are not one of the people who says “I didn’t know”, we are enclosing a list of the services and programs for 2011 – 2012 as currently scheduled (there will be updates and more information, so please watch the Temple website, the Kadima, and the Tuesday announcements). Please take time now to “reserve” the time now on your personal calendars for all of the events that interest you or may interest you.
Finally, we hope to have the opportunity to visit with each of you during the year so that we can understand what the Temple means for and to you, how the Temple fits into your life, and how you envision the future of the Temple. Although you certainly will see us at the Temple, we invite you to reach out to us by telephone (617-964-9983) or by email (bmdmom@gmail.com and rmfellman@gmail.com) so that we can interact with you. This sincere invitation is extended to every member including the youth for all of us are planning both for now and for the future.
