Youth Committee

The Youth Committee provides support to all four of the BAYGL youth groups and advises the Youth Educator in the implementation of programs for these groups. The Youth Committee has 15 members and meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 7:00-8:30pm at the Temple. All are welcome to attend. We always need more people to be a part of this fantastic committee.

Vision:
Our vision is to provide opportunities for children in grades 3 through 12 to participate in meaningful social, religious, cultural and social action experiences. We strive to cultivate an atmosphere designed to encourage tzedakah, mitzvot, a connection to Israel and a spirit of tikkun olam as well as one which fosters youth leadership, strengthens Jewish values and identity, and promotes the making of menchin. We will continue to increase participation in TBA youth programming and in the TBA and NFTY communities as well as the larger Jewish community by exploring innovative ways to engage our youth.

Youth Education Programs and Activities:
BAYGL, the Beth Avodah Youth Group League is a wonderful opportunity for teens to connect with other Temple youth, make new Jewish friends locally and regionally, and most importantly build a sense of community through annual events such as the Purim Carnival, Creative Service, BAYGL’s Bagels and Regional Events including Conclavette.

We have four youth groups:
(1) Super BAYGL: Comprised of grades 3 & 4, this group participates in five local events per year including one local late night event at Temple Beth Avodah.
(2) Mini BAYGL: Comprised of grades 5 & 6, Mini BAYGL participates in five local events per year including one local Shul-In Sleep Over at Temple Beth Avodah.
(3) Junior BAYGL: Comprised of Grades 7 & 8, Junior BAYGL participates in one event every other month. In addition Junior BAYGL attends a Regional Shul-In sleep over event in Brookline, MA at Temple Ohabei Shalom in February.
(4) Senior BAYGL: Comprised of grades 9, 10, 11, & 12, Senior BAYGL participates in one Local event per month and one Regional event per month. Senior BAYGL is part of NFTY-NE, North American Federation of Temple Youth, Northeast Region. NFTY is the youth division of the Union for Reform Judaism. Senior BAYGL has an elected youth board that holds meetings in which they plan and implement local events, facilitate membership recruitment, and increase spirituality & Ruach! The board meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 7:00-8:30pm in the youth room.
